In seventeenth and eighteenth century
England, to have made “The Grand Tour” was considered an
important addition to any young gentleman or gentlewoman’s
education. “The Grand Tour” had no fixed destinations or
itineraries. It was a cultural tour of Europe. which
embraced the great cities and particularly the great
centres of the classical world which were considered
important places to visit.
Here in our
programme we offer the listener a “Grand Tour” of music
from the great musicians and musical centres of Europe.
Recreating, through music, the colourful and diverse
variety of styles and tastes, which made “The Grand Tour”
such a rich experience for the young gentle folk of three
and four hundred years ago.
